How does CardCenter calculate a card's grade?

CardCenter measures the four border gaps (left, right, top, bottom) on each side of your card, converts them into horizontal and vertical centering ratios, and then matches the worst-axis ratio to the official centering thresholds published by each grading company (PSA, BGS, SGC, CGC, ACE, TAG, Get Graded).

Why does CardCenter use the worst-axis centering instead of an average?

Professional graders cap a card's centering grade at the worst axis. A card that is 50/50 vertically but 70/30 horizontally is judged on the 70/30 — not the average. CardCenter mirrors this exact rule so estimates align with how PSA, BGS and SGC actually grade.

Does CardCenter grade both the front and back of a card?

Yes. When you scan both sides, CardCenter grades each side independently and then applies the same front/back weighting that each grading company uses to produce a single overall estimate.

Is CardCenter's grade guaranteed to match PSA or BGS?

No. CardCenter is a pre-grading tool focused on centering. Final grades from PSA, BGS, SGC and others also factor in corners, edges, and surface — which require in-hand inspection. Use CardCenter to decide if a card is worth submitting, not as a replacement for professional grading.

Which grading companies does CardCenter support?

CardCenter provides centering-based estimates for PSA, BGS (Beckett), SGC, CGC, ACE, TAG and Get Graded — using each company's own published centering thresholds.

How We Grade Your Cards — Grading Scale

AI card centering analysis applied to a holographic 1st Edition Charizard Pokémon card — pregrading scan tracing the outer slab border and inner card edges to measure left, right, top and bottom margins.

No black boxes. Every grade CardCenter produces comes from one measurable signal: centering. Here's exactly how our AI measures your card and converts those numbers into PSA, BGS, SGC, CGC, ACE, TAG and Get Graded estimates.

CardCenter pre-grades on centering only — the single most measurable, objective factor in modern card grading. We don't fabricate subjective scores for corners, edges, or surface.
